This southern Italian resort has always been very popular. We’ve collected colourful and restored photographs and postcards since 1919. In our installations you can find a comparison of these old postcards with what these places look like now.

The grotto of St. Christopher at the entrance to Amalfi. Named after the Chapel of the same name. The Chapel has a gable facade with a triangular window on the entrance door and on the left wall a fresco depicting Christopher with the Baby Jesus in his arms.

View of one of the most luxurious hotels in Amalfi. This is what the NH Collection Grand Hotel Convento looked like in 1956. Now the hotel has a chic elevator in the rock, which can be reached from the parking lot in just 10 steps. In the past, the elevator was external and started from a staircase that was across the street from the parking lot. Now, all these terraces are left in the exact same place
Panorama of the port of Amalfi, as it was in 1957. Now you could find this place. It’s Ristorante Lo Smeraldino. The beach hasn’t changed a bit. It’s just become full of chic luxury yachts.

The description of the card indicates that this is another historical regatta. The one that is held every four years between Pisa, Genoa, Venice and Amalfi. Though on dresses it is more similar to celebration of the Byzantium New Year.

View of the viewing room above Positano. It’s a huge parking lot now. On weekends there are a lot of buses and hundreds of tourists taking pictures of one of the most beautiful views over the city.
